Diocese of Richmond
Dear Youth Worker,
Thank you for joining us for the Youth Ministry Certification! We are excited to bring to you throughout this year excellent live presentations, plus online trainings and mentoring to help you grow and build your ministry with our young people! Here is what you can expect about the online section of your Certification:
Catechetical Institute: Online Videos
You will be expected throughout the year to complete the parts of the Youth Ministry track that we are not doing as live presentations. There are 8 videos that we will not be covering. These are:
- Intercultural Ministry with Youth
- Holy Spirit, Converter of Hearts
- Theology of Youth Ministry
- Mobilizing Teens for Service, Leadership and Vocation
- “A Step Beyond”: Ministry Beyond the Parish
- The Church, the Body of Christ: Working with the Diocese, the Pastor, the Parish and Volunteers
- Our Life in Christ: the Basics of Catholic Morality
- Theology of the Body
Also, from the Elective Section, you will be expected to complete at least 5 videos. They should be split:
- 1 video from the Doctrine track
- 2 videos from the Ministerial Spirituality or Family Life Focus
- 2 videos from Special Topics
As you complete your online course work, should you have any questions about which to take or what is being covered in person, please email email@example.com. Should you have technical questions, please email Bill Keimig at the Catechetical Institute at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Once you complete an online video, your mentor will receive an email from the Catechetical Institute. This year, I will be the mentor for anyone in the Eastern Vicariate and Angie will handle the West and Central. After we receive the email notifying us of the video you completed, we will reach out to schedule a time to speak to you about what you experienced in the video and how your ministry is going. These sessions will be done over phone call and will last between a half hour and an hour. We will help you decide if more mentoring is needed, which can be a possibility, especially as you work towards your Ministry Assignment. You will have at least one phone call a semester.
This year, all students will be asked to put what they have learned into action by creating a ministry resource. The goal of this assignment is that it would be a practical tool that could be used in ministry and shared with other youth workers. We will communicate to you all the details at our second Certification session on December 2nd and the Ministry Assignment will be due by May 15th. Any questions about the assignment should be taken back to your mentor.
Should you have any questions, please email me at email@example.com. We are so glad that you are joining us this year as we begin the Youth Ministry Certification. May this year be full of growth for you and your ministry!
